RESOLUTION 2007-11

A RESOLUTION APPROVING AN AGREEMENT WITH
CENTRAL EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES REGARDING
EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES AND COMMITING
FUNDS TO PAY FOR SUCH SERVICES.
WHEREAS. Washington County and the City of Fayetteville have, since the mid 1980's,
supported Central Emergency Medical Sendee (CEMS) as the emergency ambulance provider
for the City of Fayetteville and all other incorporated and unincorporated portions of Washington
County, except for the City of Springdale and the unincorporated area that it serves; and,
WHEREAS. CEMS has served the County and cities well over the past decades; and.
WHEREAS, the funding mechanism of CEMS has become inadequate and will lead to a
crisis if not addressed in the near future; and.
WHEREAS, there is a need to enter into an interlocal agreement between Washington
County, the City of Johnson and the other incorporated cities, other than the Cities of Springdale,
Tontitown and Elm Springs, that desire to assure that their citizens will receive top quality
paramedic level emergency medical services either from CEMS or another provider.
WHEREAS, an interim agreement is necessary until such time as all the terms and details
of the interlocal agreement can be worked out and executed by all parties.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF JOHNSON.
WASHINGTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS:
ARTICLE 1: That the Johnson' City Council hereby approves the attached agreement
with Central Emergency Medical Services and hereby authorizes the Mayor to execute same on
behalf of the City of Johnson, Arkansas.
ARTICLE 2: That funds shall be designated in the City's 2008 Budget to pay the city's
obligation under the attached agreement.
