Ordinance 1997-01

AN ORDINANCE REPEALING EXISTING ORDINANCE NO. 96-24,
WHICH REDUCED THE SALARY OF THE CITY ATTORNEY,
DECLARING AN EMERGENCY, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that the work required by the office of the
City Attorney of the City of Johnson, Arkansas, is more extensive and time consuming
because of the addition in his work load of the preparation of Ordinances, Resolutions,
and Official Correspondence, and
WHEREAS, the Johnson, Arkansas Police Department is again at full strength
which will require additional court time, and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that the City Attorney spends as
much as 8 hours per month at City Court plus preparation time, 4 hours per month at City
Council plus preparation time and numerous hours of office time to prepare Ordinances,
Resolutions and official correspondence, and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that because of the judicial time required,
additional compensation is needed for the City Attorney in the form of a raise in the
monthly salary,
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Johnson,
Arkansas;
Section 1. That Ordinance No. 96-24, prescribing the salary of the City Attorney,
be repealed in its entirety..
Section 2. That the salary of the City Attorney be established at $1,500 per month,
inclusive of all Federal, State, and FICA taxes. This salary is payable at the end of each
month effective January 1, 1997 and continues until the revision of this Ordinance.
Section 3. Any Ordinances or parts of Ordinances in conflict with this Ordinance
are hereby repealed.
Section 4. An emergency is hereby declared to exist and this Ordinance being
necessary for the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Johnson, Arkansas, shall be
in full force and effect from the date of passage and approval.
