Ordinance 1998-01

AN ORDINANCE AMENDING PORTIONS OF ORDINANCES NO. 132 AND
168, 96-26, AND 97-3 AS THEY RELATE TO THE SALARIES OF
THE MAYOR AND RECORDER/TREASURER OF JOHNSON, ARKANSAS,
AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY TO EXIST.
WHEREAS, The City of Johnson, Arkansas, has in past years set
the salary for the Mayor and the salary for the Recorder/Treasurer
by various ordinances passed from time to time;
WHEREAS, Ordinance Number 132 at Section 3 thereof set the
salaries of the Mayor at $200.00 and of the Recorder/Treasurer at
$200.00 each effective June 14, 1994;
WHEREAS, Ordinance Number 152 reduced the salary for the
Recorder/Treasurer as a result of the City employing an
Administrative Assistant;
WHEREAS, Ordinance Number 168 raised the salary of the Mayor
effective January 1, 1996, to the sum of $800.00 per month, and
provided for annual salary reviews for the office of Mayor and
Recorder/Treasurer, further requiring that any increases or
decreases in such salaries be enacted by the City Council in the
annual budget for the City of Johnson to be submitted by ordinance
on or before February 1 of each successive year;
WHEREAS, Ordinance Number 96-26 was enacted which repealed
Ordinance No. 152 in its entirety and thereby effectively
reinstated the provisions of Ordinance Number 132, Section 3, in
regard to the salary of the Recorder/Treasurer to $200.00 per month
effective January 10, 1995;

WHEREAS, Ordinance Number 97-3 was enacted and raised the
salary of the Recorder/Treasurer to $300.00 per month effective
January 1, 1997;
WHEREAS, in obedience to Ordinance Number 168, Section 5, the
Johnson City Council has reviewed the salaries set for the
individuals holding the office of Mayor and the office of
Recorder/Treasurer, and the City Council has considered and
determined that the work of the individual holding the office of
Mayor and the work of the individual holding the office or
Recorder/Treasurer has increased and they are deserving of
additional compensation as a result.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it ordained and enacted by the City Council
of the City of Johnson, Arkansas, as follows:
Section 1. That effective January 1, 1998, the salary for the
Mayor of Johnson, Arkansas, shall be $900.00 per month, payable on
the last day of each month.
Section 2 . That effective January 1, 1998, the salary for the
Recorder/Treasurer of Johnson, Arkansas, shall be $600.00 per
month, payable on the last day of each month.
Section 3. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict
with this Ordinance are hereby repealed as of the effective date
hereof.
Section 4. An emergency is hereby declared to exist, passage
and implementation of this ordinance is necessary to provide for
the continued administration of City business and therefore this

Ordinance is necessary to preserve the peace, safety and welfare of
the citizens of Johnson, Arkansas. This Ordinance shall be in full
force and effect from the date of passage and approval.
