Ordinance 1998-12

AN ORDINANCE SETTING THE SALARY FOR JOHNSON CITY COUNCIL
MEMBERS AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, the City Council has performed a review of the
salaries of City Council members in the area; and,
WHEREAS, it appears that the councilpersons on the Johnson
City Council are among the lowest paid council members in this
area; and,
WHEREAS, the Council has determined that a position on the
Johnson City Council is not intended be a significant income source
for any council member, it should nevertheless, recompense the
members for numerous out-of-pocket and miscellaneous expenses they
incur, as well as allow them compensation for loss of personal
time .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, by the City Council of
Johnson, Arkansas, that:
Section 1 . From and after January 1, 1999, Councilpersons
shall be paid at the rate of $25.00 per month; pursuant to
the provisions of Resolution No. 97-4, that salary shall be paid at
or following the regular December meeting in each calendar year and
the pay shall be for the preceding 12 months.
Section 2 . All ordinances or resolutions in conflict
herewith , in whole or part , are hereby repealed to the extent of
such conflict .
Section 3 . An emergency is hereby declared to exist/ it is
hereby determined that immediate passage of this ordinance is
necessary to provide the salary increase for incoming council
members at the first of the year, therefore, this ordinance shall
take effect and be in full force from and after its passage and
approval.
