Ordinance 2000-05

AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING NEW WARD BOUNDARIES WITHIN THE CITY OF
JOHNSON, ARKANSAS, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, the Johnson City Council has the responsibility to see that each Ward has as
nearly an equal population to each of the other Wards as would best serve the interests of the
taxpayers of the City pursuant to A.C.A. §14-44-101(b); and,
WHEREAS, A.C.A. §14-44-102(a) authorizes the City Council in Cities of the Second
Class to change Ward boundary lines to equalize populations in the various Wards; and,
WHEREAS, a recent survey by the Northwest Regional Planning Office determined
inequities existing as regards households in the various Johnson Wards.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF JOHNSON, ARKANSAS:
Section 1: That the City Council hereby divides the City into new Wards, and each
Ward shall include al that part of the City lying within the boundary lines established on the Ward
Boundary Map attached hereto marked Exhibit "A" and made a part hereof.
Section 2: Since it is near the time for residents of the City to place themselves on the
ballot for election to the Johnson City Council and due to the existing inequities in Ward
populations, it is necessary for the continued peace and safety of the residents of Johnson that this
Ordinance take effect immediately upon its passage and approval.
