ORDINANCE NO. 2015-11


AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR ENHANCED COMPENSATION FOR MEMBERS OF THE 

JOHNSON PLANNING COMMISSION, AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 2012-12, AND OTHER MATTERS RELATED THERETO.

WHEREAS, the ordinances pursuant to which the Johnson Planning Commission was created. c:xisted and operated until 2012 provided that the Commissioners were to receive no compensation for their services but could be reimbursed for actual expenses incurred in carrying out functions of the Commission.

WHEREAS, serving as a Planning Commissioner for the City of Johnson has continued to require more time than formerly and the responsibilities of that position have grown as well.

WHEREAS, while it is impossible to fully compensate someone for the giving of their time, their talents, their personal interests and for their dedication to the tasks involved in serving on the Planning Commission, some tangible expression of appreciation is appropriate.

WHEREAS, Ordinance 2012-12 provided for compensation Commissioner, it failed to encourage those members to take advantage of educational opportunities which would enable them to enhance their experience. f

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF JOHNSON, ARKANSAS, That:

Section 1: Effective with the passage of this Ordinance Section 1: of Ordinance No. 2012-12 shall read as follows:

Section 1: Effective with all Planning Commission meetings that occur after December 31. 2015. each Planning Commission member attending a regular meeting or special meeting of the Johnson Planning Commission  (sitting as a Commissioner or member of the Board of Adjustment) shall receive compensation in accordance with a Resolution passed specifically to set such per meeting compensation. Such Resolutions may be passed from time to time to adjust that per meeting compensation. However, no Planning Commissioner shall be paid for attending more than 15 meetings in a calendar year. Provided further. After. December. 2017. no Planning Commission member who has not attended at least six ( 6) hours of education concerning land use, zoning, planning, development or other Planning Commission related topics within the past 24 month period. Shall receive compensation for meetings attended as hereinabove set forth.

Section 2: In all other respects Ordinance No. 2012-12 is ratified and confirmed.
