AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THE FIRING OR
DISCHARGING OF FIRE ARMS OR PISTOLS IN THE
CORPORATE LIMITS OF THE TOWN OF JOHNSON,
WASHINGTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, AND FOR OTHER
PURPOSES AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.

WHEREAS, it has been found by the. Town Council that the
discharge of firearms within the Corporate Limits of the Town of
Johnson, Arkansas, by the residents and non-residents of the Town
of Johnson, Arkansas, in an indiscriminate and careless manner is
an increasing nuisance, creating loud and unreasonable noise;
AND WHEREAS, the Town Council has found that the firing and
discharging of firearms and pistols within the Corporate Limits
in an indiscriminate manner constitutes a hazard to lives and
property of citizens and should be prohibited;
WHEREAS, The Town Council of Johnson, Arkansas, has
determined that the supervised firing or discharging of firearms
on the Johnson Police firing range is permissible.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL of the
Town of Johnson, Arkansas:
Section 1: No person, firm or corporation shall fire or
discharge a firearm or pistol using either powder, gas, air or
chemical as a propellant within the Corporate Limits of the Town
of Johnson, Washington County, Arkansas, except:
a. On and within the officially designated Johnson Police
firing range and only under the range rules and regulations as
set out by the Johnson Police Department;
b. For the protection of life or property; and
c. On and within districts zoned as "agricultural".
Section 2: Any person, firm or corporation violating the
provisions of this Ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and
shall be fined in a sum not less than $25.00 and not more than
$100.00, and each violation shall be and. constitute a separate
offense.
Section 3: This Ordinance being necessary for the peace,
health and welfare of the inhabitants of the Town of Johnson, an

taKe effect from and after its approval, passage and publication.
Section 4: All other ordinances, provisions and/or sections
of Ordinances in conflict are hereby repealed upon passage of
this Ordinance.
