AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A POLICE DEPARTMENT
FOR THE CITY OF JOHNSON, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, cities of the second class have the power from time
to time to make and publish ordinances not inconsistant with the
Laws of the State necessary to provide for the safety, to preserve
the health, promote the prosperity and improve the morals, order,
comfort and convenience of the inhabitants of such cities, and
such further ordinances as shall be necessary to secure such corporations
and it's inhabitants against injury by fire, thieves,
robbers, burglars, and other persons violating the public peace,
and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Johnson has made the
considered decision that it's necessary, proper and for the best.
interests of the said city that a police department be established
for the City of Johnson.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNSEL OF TBE CITY
OF JOHNSON, WASHINGTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS:
SECTION 1: The Department of Police is hereby established,
pursuant to the applicable laws· of the State of Arkansas, for the
City of Johnson, Arkansas.

SECTION 2: The Departmen of Police shall consist of a chied

of police and one or more patrolmen.

SECTION 3: The chief of police shall be appointed by the Mayor
------------------by the City Council of the Citv of Johnson.

SECTION 5: The salary of the chief of police and patrolmen
and the hours of duty shall be as may be from time to time established
by the City Council of the City of Johnson.
SECTION 6: The duties of the chief of Poice and patrolmen
of the City of Johnson shall be as prescribed by the Laws of the
state of Arkansas.
SECTION 7: This ordinanee being necessary for the peace, health
and safety of the citizens of the City of Johnson in emergency is
hereby declared to exist, and this ordinance shall take effect and
be in full force and effect from and after it's passage, approval
and publication.
