A RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE NORTHWEST
ARKANSAS REGIONAL BICYCLE AND PEDESTRIAN
MASTER PLAN AND ADOPTING THE INDIVIDUAL PLAN
FOR THE CITY OF JOHNSON AS INCORPORATED AS
PART OF THE MASTER PLAN
WHEREAS, the Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission along with its member
communities completed a comprehensive regional planning process involving extensive public
involvement and community participation, including the development of 25 Individual Community
Action Plans for communities with a population of over 1,000; and
WHEREAS, the vision for the bicycle and pedestrian trail and roadway system will
comfortably, safely, and efficiently accommodate bicycle and pedestrian transportation. The linking
of local and regional attractions will make the area a world-class bicycle and pedestrian destination.
Walking and bicycling will become a common, enjoyable, and viable transportation and recreation
choice that promotes active living and a high quality of life in Northwest Arkansas; and
WHEREAS, The plan is built upon a balanced approach to Engineering, Education,
Encouragement, Enforcement, and Evaluation which provides a regional framework for policies,
projects and programs that can be implemented at the local level; and
WHEREAS, every community in the region is unique and will develop in its own way - but
will do so with a common vision of becoming more walkable, bikeable and livable places for
residents, visitors, and businesses in NWA.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JOHNSON,
ARKANSAS:
Section 1: That the City Council of the City of Johnson, Arkansas hereby endorses the
NWA Regional Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan.
Section 2: That the City Council of the City of Johnson, Arkansas hereby adopts the
Individual City Plan as shown as Exhibit "A", attached hereto and made a part hereof.
Section 3: That the City will work towards implementing a balanced approach to
Engineering. Education, Encouragement, Enforcement, and Evaluation based on the regional
framework for policies, projects and programs that can be implemented at the local level and as
described inthe plan.
